CHAPTER 17 Product Navigation and Features

On the product page there are eight buttons that you can use to add the product to additional categories, enter product options, create a product special, and link another related product as a suggested accessory.

Categories

Click the Category button, to quickly add the product to additional categories and subcategories. When you click Categories, all categories and subcategories that have been created will be displayed. A check mark next to a category means that the product is currently listed under that category. Simply, select each additional category or subcategory that you want this product to be listed in and click Finish to save. This is also a quick and easy way to remove a product from certain categories and subcategories.

Cross-selling

Cross-selling is a feature that enables you to link related products together. When customers go to a product's page that has cross-selling set up, links to the related products will be available. The links will be shown as suggested accessories. By doing this, you are basically suggesting to the customer related products that they might not have otherwise looked at.

This is very similar to going into a clothing store and upon checkout, the sales clerk will ask if you need a pair of matching socks to go with the shirt you are purchasing or if you are at a camping/outdoor store and on the display shelves along with the all the hiking boots are the kits for waterproofing the leather on the boots.

Adding a Suggested Accessory to a Product:

From the product page of a product that you want to cross sell, click Cross Sell Products. This will take you to a page similar to the one shown below.

This is where you need to search for the product that you want as a suggested accessory. Enter in the search criteria and then click Search.

The search results page will look something like the image below.

Using the Legend shown above, you can see that V-Neck T-Shirts has not been set up as a suggested accessory yet. In order to have V-Neck T-Shirts show up as a suggested accessory to Crew Neck T-Shirts, click the symbol located under the word Attached until you get to the blue arrow pointing to the right. "Current product" refers to the product that is in the search results.

You can also have Crew Neck T-Shirts show up as a suggested accessory to V-Neck T-Shirts (arrow pointing left) or have the two products show up as suggested accessories to each other (double arrow).

When a customer accesses the product page for Crew neck T-Shirts there will be a link to the product V-Neck T-Shirts. When customers clicks on the link to V-Neck T-Shirts, they will be taken to the retail product page for V-Neck T-Shirts.

Discounts

The discounts that are listed here are discounts that were created from the Discount page. If you want the product to have one of the discounts applied, simply select the name of the discount. If the product you are discounting has options, the discount quantity breaks are option specific. This means that if you have a discount of buy 2 get 50% off, the customer must select 2 with the same product option (2 medium blue t-shirts).

If you have a special price set up for this product and you also apply a discount, the discount will be taken from the special price.

Options

Product options are varieties of a single product. If the product comes in more than one flavor, color, size, etc. you will need to enter the options here.

Note:

All attributes must be defined before adding inventory. You cannot change attributes after inventory is defined without losing inventory information. You can add, remove, and change options without regard to inventory, but attributes will erase inventory information if one is added or deleted.

There are two parts to entering product options. First you need to define the attribute and then you can add the options that fall under that attribute.

The attribute is a descriptive word in which the options will be listed under. For example, lets say that you want to enter all the different colors a T-Shirt you are selling comes in. The attribute would be the word "Colors" and the options would be all the different colors available (blue, white, etc.).

The first thing that you need to define is the name of the attribute. To do this, click the button named Product Options. This will take you to a page depicted below.

From the page shown above you can edit, rename or delete any existing attributes. Click Add to go to the page shown below.

Enter in the attribute name and click Add. Now you can add the options, which are the actual products a customer will select from (small, medium, large).

Price Modifier

The price that you enter here will be added to or subtracted from the main product cost. For example, lets say you are selling display plates for $75 but the gold plates will cost $25 more. For this to display the correct cost when a customer orders a gold plate, you will need to enter the number 25 here. To have a cost subtracted, enter the negative symbol (-) and then the number to be subtracted. If the option doesn't have a different cost, leave the field empty.
