I can't find anywhere that will automatically refresh/regenerate the root sitemap.xml file. Seems silly to make the site admin remember to manually do something so minor that is so beneficial. The app should schedule an automatic job to generate the sitemap file on a regular basis.

Interesting note: you cannot just copy the sitemap generator code to a class library and generate the sitemap through a server side routine. Sitemap requires an HttpContext to exist.

But you can fake the HttpContext before you make the call to generate the sitemap

Code:

            // set up a fake httpcontext required by sitemap generator
            HttpContext.Current = new HttpContext(new HttpRequest("", "http://tempuri.org", ""), new HttpResponse(new StringWriter()));
