I noticed that AC 9.0.4 was updated to .Net Framework 4.8. It looks like 4.8 has been out for a couple years and is the final version of .Net Framework. Are there any plans on the horizon to update to .Net 5, or is that a major leap that will break too many things?

We haven't looked into .NET 5 yet but perhaps that would be a major upgrade.
